Teeth cleaning
During a teeth cleaning, a dental hygienist or dentist will use specialized tools to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth, both above and below the gumline. The hygienist may also use a dental scaler to remove any stains on the teeth that have accumulated from food, beverages, or tobacco use.
The teeth cleaning process usually begins with a physical examination of the mouth to check for any signs of decay or gum disease. The dental hygienist will then use a small mirror to look at the surfaces of your teeth and to check for any areas that may need extra attention.
After the examination, the hygienist will use a small scraper or ultrasonic scaler to remove any plaque and tartar buildup on the teeth. The scaler uses high-frequency vibrations to loosen and remove the deposits. Once the deposits are removed, the hygienist will use a polisher and a special paste to remove any remaining stains on the teeth and give them a smooth, polished surface.
