Cosmetic Bonding

Cosmetic bonding, also known as dental bonding, is a dental procedure in which a tooth-colored composite resin material is applied to the surface of a tooth to improve its appearance. The resin is carefully sculpted and shaped to match the color and shape of the surrounding teeth, and then hardened with a special light.

Cosmetic bonding can be used to correct a variety of cosmetic dental problems, including:

  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Misshapen or uneven teeth
  • Teeth that appear too small or too large

The bonding material is applied in layers and can be shaped and sculpted to achieve the desired shape and size. Once the desired shape is achieved, the bonding material is hardened with a special light and then polished to a smooth, natural-looking finish.

Cosmetic bonding is a minimally invasive and relatively affordable way to improve the appearance of the teeth, and can usually be completed in a single office visit.

However, bonding material may not last as long as other restorative materials like dental veneers or dental crowns and may require periodic replacement or repair. Your dentist can help determine whether cosmetic bonding is the right choice for your individual needs and can provide guidance on the best way to maintain your dental health and appearance.
